Manchester Airport will be worst affected, with 90 jobs to go, while 25 staff at East Midlands Airport and 3 staff at Bournemouth are also facing redundancy. All three of these airports make up the Manchester Airport Group. (MAG).
The job losses have been blamed on declining passenger numbers according to the Telegraph.co.uk
Manchester Airport, the UK’s busiest airport outside of London, has been hit by a number of route cuts during recent months. British Airways scrapped its Manchester-New York service last year, while Bmi has abandoned its long-haul flights from the airport and reduced the frequency of its flights to Dublin, Amsterdam, Brussels and Aberdeen. From May, Singapore Airlines will reduce its services between Manchester and the Far East from five weekly flights to three, while Thomson Airways is ending its scheduled link with Tel Aviv in April.
Total job losses = 118
