<blockquote><p>In an announcement to staff in its business centres across Britain, RBS said it was cutting another <span style="color: #ff0000;">3500</span> jobs, taking the total number of    UK-based staff made redundant to <span style="color: #ff0000;">20600</span>.</p></blockquote>
<p>So far <span style="color: #ff0000;">9000</span> positions at RBS business centres have disappeared, with back    office staff in call centres and IT departments making up the larger part of    the redundancies as the bank looks for an annual saving of £2.5bn.</p>
<p>Among the new cuts, around <span style="color: #ff0000;">1500</span> are related to RBS&#8217;s sale of 318 bank    branches to Spain&#8217;s Santander.</p>

<p>The trade union Accord has announced this morning that<span style="color: #ff0000;"> 700</span> jobs are set to go at <strong>Lloyds Banking Group&#8217;s</strong> offices in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.<br />
Since its merger with HBOS last autumn, Lloyds has axed thousands of jobs due to overlap within the megabank.</p>
<p>The news comes just two weeks after the banking giant, which is 43% owned by the taxpayer, announced it would axe <span style="color: #ff0000;">5000</span> jobs by the end of 2010 &#8211; these were in addition to the <span style="color: #ff0000;">10000</span> already axed this year.</p>
